The First Expedition[]
Earth, in their search for intelligent extraterrestrials, had come across Gamila very late in their program. It was discovered by Kendall Patrick of the International Astrobiology Center (IAC) and his associates. With many signs of distinguished life, the planet was marked for travel. After decades of work, the Newton 9 was built, and set its sights to the Rift, a geometric oddity that allowed fast travel through large distances with the help of nonphysical girders. A large team of physicists, biologists, and other professionals were sent in small, protected vehicles and suits to study and perhaps communicate with the creatures of Gamila.
The Second Expedition[]
After the mission returned 20 years later, a second crew was set out to collect some unique animals for testing on Earth. The team often captured pregnant hosts and mating couples, attempting to observe behaviors. Animals were studied carefully on Earth, in elaborate labs all over the planet.
The Third Expedition[]
The first expedition had proven that Gamila was stable enough to possibly sustain a human colony. To prepare, large machines were set up in a third expedition. These extracted raw materials, such as oil. Base frames were built for the incoming colony, and a large fence was built to keep away animals. Security cameras were set up all over the planet, even under the sea.
Controversy[]
After the 3 expeditions, controversy rose on the effect humans were causing. The extraction of material was viewed as hurting the environment, due to its close relation to Fracking. Many of the tests that were put on animals were also seen as unethical, as they were often hurt, dissected, mistreated, or separated from their family or habitat. This began the GCA, or Gamilian Conservation Agency. After much debate, The GCA and IAC agreed on the Paddleton Treaty, which set into place a new rule. By the Paddleton Treaty, organizations would use cloning to acquire Extraterrestrials instead of removing animals from their habitat, and there were loose limits on testing. Torturing animals and things of that nature were prohibited, and if death was needed, it would be sharp and painless. This sparked some retaliation from both sides. Members of the GCA claimed this left wiggle room for unethical treatment, and members of the IAC claimed this limited discovery on social and cultural behaviors. Also, machines involved in colonies would be checked for environmental effects. In the end, however, they put these aside.
The Colony[]
Finally, the colony was built. It remains underground, sustaining a simple society. Special technology has allowed the repopulation of colonies, without sending new astronauts or causing disformations on babies due to planetary conditions. Every day, researchers discover and study new species and events, catalog it, and send data back to Earth for testing. Earth crops have been grown in a small, artificially lighten greenhouse for food. Testing continues on Earth as well, and new DNA samples are sent through capsules for future cloning.
