The Standwatch (C. nettnaflagia) are a species of carnivorous tree indigenous to the temperate moon Avan.
Information[]
Standwatches are large trees that make up the bulk of forests on the moon. Standing upon substantial, mangrove-like roots they are able to lift themselves up out of the soil to expose the area underneath when hungry for a meal, which they entice or "conjure" to them with a sweet, aromatic scent before closing back around the prey like a giant Venus fly trap. This organism then becomes trapped inside and will die, where its nutrients are quickly absorbed by the tree. Once fed they grow so fast that they can actually be seen growing in real time. Under the right conditions a single Standwatch can grow to "full" height within as little as several days. It also uses supplemental photosynthesis in times where it cannot claim meat for some time. They are split into two sexes and require pollination by local creatures which will produce grass-like seeds that are then scattered by the wind.
