Moyans are a sapient humanoid species from Moya, whose likeness was immortalized on Earth in the form of the Moai.

Biology[]

Moyans are tall, hairless mammalian humanoids, bearing a rather bulky, naturally muscular build. Moyan heads have a somewhat oblong shape, taller vertically than the average humanoid head, also bearing a flat top and a unibrow-like structure, with Human-like eyes, large nose, and ears. Their lips somewhat protrude from their faces, and being entirely herbivorous, Moyans bear large, flat teeth. Their skin, bone, and muscle tissue are far denser than that of Humans, with their skin bearing a smooth, stone-like texture, giving them incredible strength and durability. Moyans live for an average of 500 Earth years. Internally, Moyans possess dark red blood and a standard organ arrangement, although their organs are notably larger than that of Humans, also able to work more efficiently to support their bodies. Moyan females are distinguished from males by a slightly less bulky frame, flat but still noticeable breasts, and smaller noses, but bear similar strength and durability as males.

Culture and society[]

Moyans, while possessing strength that would make them formidable warriors, are peaceful explorers and artisans, most well known for their sculptures, their primary form of art, although painting and digital creations are also widespread. A common form of Moyan artwork, present in almost every Moyan household and even aboard their spacecraft, are minimalistic busts of their heads, direct inspiration for Earth's far larger Moai statues. While many Moyan items are manufactured and mass-produced, it is not uncommon for Moyans to modify or otherwise customize certain items to their preference, with some items purposefully presented as generic blank slates. Moyan architecture incorporates the natural landscape, with rocks and trees mixed into the exterior of their structures, which are normally wide cylindrical buildings with many large windows and flat roofs, with skyscrapers and other large buildings often being built in cylindrical shapes as well. Aside from the rocks and foliage added to their buildings, the foundation, support, and primary makeup of Moyan architecture are often made up of metal or other conventional materials, but interior finishes and coverings of wood or stone in place of typical metal panels, often adorned with relief sculptures, are also quite common, as are gas-lit torches in place of electronic lighting in certain areas, such as pavilions and entrances to buildings. While Moyan civilian clothing can vary wildly, from tunics and conventional (by Human standards) attire with to ornate robes, Moyan government spaceship crews use blue shirts with dark vests, blue pants, large black boots, and a large belt, with their rank represented on their shoulders, chest, and vest. The Moyan language is known as Moyese, consisting of 17 letters. Like Laygiamoids, Moyans have a very small standing army, mostly used for ceremonial purposes or providing security for officials. The ruler of the Moai is a monarch known as the Great Moyi, ruling from the capital of Moya, Moahonaha. Prior the Promethean invasion of the Milky Way, Moyans, like Laygiamoids and Aurians, set up distant, near-isolated colonies only connected to the greater Moyan state by communication relays. Unlike Aurians and Laygiamoids, if they find a planet with native sapient life while surveying it, they will abandon any operations to said planet.

Technology[]

Moyans have access to highly advanced technologies, including hyperspace-faring crafts. Moyan spacecraft normally bear rounded, smooth hulls, normally lacking weapons and with several green and blue bands running across the length of the ship. Moyan vehicles are quite large and spacious to accommodate the large size of Moyans, and civilian vehicles like buses and automobiles sometimes better resemble boats. The few Moyan weapons in production before the Promethean invasion and Trans-Galactic War, used by their military, consisted of bulky, oversized (by Human standards) spears with energy-lined tips, and energy rifles distinguished by several ceremonial ornaments that sometimes made them impractical in combat.

History[]

Moyans arose on Moya, a world in the Scutum-Centaurus Arm in the Milky Way, long before modern Human civilization. They evolved strong, dense bodies, a great defense against early predators on Moya, allowing them to live relatively undisturbed by threats from other lifeforms. They formed a civilization over the next few thousand years, art taking prominence in their growing society, inspired by the scenic environment of Moya, and the figures of living beings they came across, including themselves. While slow to develop advanced technology, Moyans eventually took to the stars, soon meeting the expanding Crysonians. Thus, the Moyans were among the founding races of the Star Union. Like other races of the early Star Union, they expanded and developed their technologies, their artwork becoming popular among the Star Union. They stayed away from what conflicts the Star Union came across, and like Laygiamoids and Aurians, they began to establish distant colonies in the other arms of the Milky Way, connected to the Star Union by communication relays. By 3000 BC, Moyans were beginning to establish colonies closer to the Orion-Cygnus Arm, although not entering the arm. By 1000 BC, the Milky Way was invaded by Andromedans, led by a powerful humanoid race known as Prometheans. The invasion force took most Milky Way races by surprise, quickly destroying many of the scattered Moyan colonies, although one survived, forced to flee into the Orion-Cygnus Arm and cut off from the Star Union.

During the Promethean invasion, Moyans still in the Scutum-Centaurus Arm were forced to organize a proper military force for the first time in their history, although they mostly focused on defense. After several years of fighting, the Prometheans lost interest in the Milky Way due to the heavy resistance it was displaying and their own forces being stretched thin, withdrawing and returning to the Andromeda Galaxy. In the Scutum-Centaurus Arm, Moyans remained in the Star Union, needing their resources to rebuild and greatly reducing their colonies, most of their population moving to core Star Union regions or back to Moya's sector. The Orion-Cygnus Arm colony, unable to find a hyperlane back to the Scutum-Centaurus Arm, looked for a world to settle on. They wandered nomadically for over a thousand years, most planets they came across having their resources depleted or their surfaces rendered uninhabitable, and the colonists lacked resources to make complex settlements to survive in those conditions. They began sending out what deep space scout crafts they had to find potentially habitable worlds. Around the year 1200 AD, Moyan scouts came by the Sol System, finding Earth as the only habitable planet. The scout crafts landed on Easter Island, coming across a tribe of Humans on the island. After meeting the Humans, the Moyans quickly left as to not disrupt what they saw as a developing primitive society. However, their image was forever immortalized by the Humans, who later carved giant statues in their image, known as the Moai, reminiscent of the common minimalistic Moyan busts.

The Moyan colony would eventually settle on a world they named Cerspi V, and did not establish contact with other species in the Orion-Cygnus Arm, such as the members of the Nylos-Stream Union. Moyans on both sides of the Milky Way were reunited in 2025, when extragalactic aliens from beyond the Andromeda galaxy arrived in the Milky Way, bearing messages rather than an invasion force. They spoke of the Exan-run Intergalactic Empire, first meeting the Moyans of the Star Union. While traditionally opposed to conflict, the Moyans were ready to fight once more. With the Star Union, the Moyans traveled to meet with other species across the Milky Way, reaching the Orion-Cygnus Arm, where they quickly came across the other Moyans, the species reunited at last. Moyans accompanied Crysonians and other representatives of the Star Union to the Nylos-Stream Union, Earth, and important worlds in other arms of the Milky Way, as military buildup began in preparation of the incoming invasion force. Soon, Imperial forces arrived at the Milky Way, invading the Scutum-Centaurus Arm, where the Star Union fought them. However, Imperials eventually breached the defenses, capturing Moya and forcing the defenders to the other galactic arms. Like most other races, the Moyans sought to rally behind a new unifying power in the Orion-Cygnus Arm, with Earth rising to a leading position in the galaxy's military-industrial complex. Earth soon led the counterattack against the Imperial forces, creating the Trans-System Alliance as the new unifying state for the Milky Way. Together, Moyans, Humans, and all other races who fought alongside them battled across galaxies, from the occupied Scutum-Centaurus Arm to the Imperial-allied Promethean strongholds of Andromeda, and all the battlegrounds of the Local Group, eventually retaking Moya and using the Imperials' own hyperlanes against them, the armies of the Trans-System Alliance bringing the fight to Imperial-controlled galaxies. The war came to an end in the Immateriax Galaxy with the destruction of the Imperial Star Palace, and the Trans-System Alliance reorganized into the Trans-Galactic Alliance.

After the Trans-Galactic War, Moyans, like Laygiamoids, once again retired their military force, returning to the field of art. They expanded with other races of the Milky Way into deep space, their artworks becoming famous across galaxies, although they mostly kept to areas well-controlled by the Trans-Galactic Alliance.
