"Drinkers are typical grazers on their homeplanet. With super-extended necks, they are able to try to keep relatively safe from the predators on either 'side' of a watering hole. Their only defense against the ambushing Snappups is a single venom sac."

Drinkers are a species of herbivore native to the dust bowls (the planet's term for large, severely drought-plagued savannahs wrought by dust storms) on their planet. Water is essential, and they travel in groups known as taverns that may consist anywhere from 50-5,000,000 individuals strong, depending on the time of year and the current levels of water found in local oases dotting the landscape. Since their world is nearly entirely covered in these "dust bowl" savannahs, they are roughly cosmopolitan.

Drinkers crowd water holes in large numbers and may drink much of the water found therein. Their main predators are a species of ambush predators known as Snappups, found hiding within these watering holes, which will wait until the creature lowers its head to drink before striking. In order to aid in survivability percentages from this, their necks have grown very long and a poisonous organ will spray a small glob of neurotoxin at the predator. Their legs, while they may not look it, are built to handle quick and powerful leaps which they use to try and quickly get out of the spot they were standing in, also minimizing fatalities. Even so, many will be taken at the watering holes when they drink; there are so many of them at a time sometimes they cannot flee, and some do not successfully get a chance to spray at the predator, even.

  • These Drinkers are (perhaps obviously) in no way related to the ancient dinosaur species found on Earth, also known as the Drinker (Drinker nisti).
  • Drinkers were one of Somarinoa's very first SPORE creations.
