Beaked Armadillo

A Beaked Armadillo resting on a cloudy night

Beaked Armadillos are large herbivores native to the Mauran Tundra on Gamila. They have a special shell created by strange scales that is able to extend, popping up like a spring when attacked. The shell is separated into many squares that are attached to makeshift pistons within the body. Blood rises to these pistons and pushes against them, building pressure until the piston shoots out, knocking predators backwards. The blood then goes back into the body, pulling the shell fragment back in. Unfortunately, they are easily tipped over, revealing their underbellies and giving predators an opening. They often feed on Xeppep bulbs, using their hard beaks to break through the shells.
