Alux is a large gas giant located in the Milky Way.
Discovery[]
The Sereno spacecraft was searching for exoplanets in the Milky Way as well as in several other galaxies. While searching for exoplanets, it located what appeared to be a G type star, just a little larger than the Sun that Earth orbits, but smaller than Alpha Centauri A. The star had a similar luminosity to the sun. However, while trying to see whether the star had planets, a huge, and strange structure was discovered. Below the large structure was a gas giant, suggesting that an advanced civilization was living there. It was given the name Alux, due to its very low albedo. Much, later, a sub-Neptune was discovered with a similar structure, suggesting that either the Aluxians are in more than one planet, or that it was a coincidence.
Characteristics[]
Alux has a radius of 1.2-1.3 Jupiters, making it large than Jupiter in radius. It was also more massive, with a mass of 3 Jupiters. Alux has a very low albedo, similar to what is seen in other low albedo exoplanets, such as TrES 2b, and WASP 12b. It orbits a star very similar to the sun. It orbits the habitable zone of its star.
Moons[]
The Sereno spacecraft did not identify any moons at first during Alux's discovery. As such, some at first thought that if it did have moons, they will be the size of Mercury at maximum. As such, it was believed that its largest moons will be smaller than the two largest moons in the solar system, Ganymede, and Titan. However, this was proven false when the Sereno spacecraft studied its discoveries again. It was found that Alux actually had a moon. The moon, unlike those of the Solar System, does not have a rocky surface, but is rather made of gas just like Jupiter, and Saturn. The moon is very large with a radius similar to that of Jupiter, and larger than that of Saturn. This will make it larger than the largest moon in the Solar System, Ganymede.
Life[]
The only life identified in the planet so far is the Aluxians. The Aluxians appear to be adapted to the strong pressure, and darkness of the gas giant. However, there is most likely a variety of life on this gas giant. It's also possible the Aluxians colonized other planets too. An exoplanet close to the size of Neptune, and a gas giant larger than Jupiter have very similar structures to Alux, suggesting that the Aluxians can travel across planets.
Structure[]
Alux has a large structure in the top of the planet. It's unknown what this structure is used for. It could possibly be used for getting energy from their star, possibly to power their cities. The structure is very large when extended, stretching a similar distance Earth is from the Sun. The structure has three mouthparts. The two outer parts hold on to the star, while the middle point sucks the energy from the star to most likely power their cities. The large structure can also retract itself. When the planet was studied again, it was found that the Aluxians can even use the structure to move their own star.
